- Is the value display-only, or is it an identifier, key, code, filename, or lookup value?
- Is the normalization form named by the input owner?
- Can the original value be retained beside the normalized display value?
- For an unknown contract, mark the item review-needed; do not claim a safe conversion.
- Compare before and after values with synthetic fixtures before changing real data.
